UK SAYS NO MORE Week 2018 (21-27 May) was an incredible week with lots of inspiring action being taken to help end domestic abuse and sexual violence, plenty of conversations happening online and offline, and some exciting partnerships announced.
We want to thank each and every one of you who joined in, in whatever capacity. By uniting our voices we can turn up the volume on these vital conversations.
Here’s some of what went on:
Online: With your help, we reached over 230,000 people online through our social media platforms, increasing the national conversation.
During the week:
- Over 100 MPs supported UK SAYS NO MORE by becoming champions of the campaign, and many joined us for a call to action event in parliament where attendees heard from 2 inspiring survivors of abuse about their own personal experience, alongside 2 of our champions, Carolyn Harris and Baroness Newlove about why they are saying NO MORE.
- In partnership with Uber we have launched a new informative video around sexual harassment, as part of their commitment to use Uber’s scope and visibility to drive awareness, education, and prevention of sexual assault and domestic violence.
- We held an event focusing on men’s role in ending domestic abuse and sexual violence, where we heard from panelists Victor Bama, an NFL Peer Ambassador, and Nicholas Martin, Director of Stay Safe Global, alongside James Sinclair, Head of the UK Wing Chun Kung Fu Association. UK SAYS NO MORE and Stay Safe Global are shortly launching the findings of a study looking at young people and healthy relationships.
- Modern Films joined as a UK SAYS NO MORE partner, and launched their film THE RAPE OF RECY TAYLOR on 25th May. The film exposes a legacy of physical and sexual abuse of black women and reveals Rosa Parks’ intimate role in Recy Taylor’s story, as a young mother who was gang raped in 1944 Alabama.
- American nail-wrap company Jamberry raised £1,500 and vital awareness of domestic abuse by hosting a Cocktails for Change event. Guests enjoyed UK SAYS NO MORE branded nail wraps, cocktails, music, and the opportunity to bid for different prizes, with all proceeds going to London charity Hestia, who are the largest provider of domestic abuse refuges in London.
